Carlee & Kendal

Married April 4, 2015

When Carlee Adamski and Kendal Smith planned an April wedding, they never expected that when the big day came, Halifax would still be in total winter mode. The pair—who followed the friends-first path to love—had gotten engaged the previous spring in the Bahamas, while visiting Kendal’s family. “I wasn’t expecting such an open, public kind of proposal,” says Carlee of the backyard party where Kendal popped the question in front of both her family, and his. Upon getting home to Halifax, Carlee immediately booked her photographer, and her florist (conveniently her sister) and got to planning the rest. “I was kind of holding off in hopes that it would turn around,” says Carlee of the winter wonderland she and Kendal faced on their wedding day—a day filled with pretty pastel purples, pinks and greys. “We wanted outside pictures, and we just threw on winter boots and went for it. We thought, ‘There could be worse things in life so let’s do it.’” Guests stayed warm from the wintery temperatures inside a stunning ballroom at Carlee’s place of work—the stylish Alt Hotel—and wiped away tears through a thoughtful speech from her dad. It could have been doing anything outside, and it wouldn’t have mattered. “Things are going to happen but you’re there to marry each other and start a life together,” says Carlee. “And that’s what really counts.”
