It’s not often that couples can say of their wedding that “everything came together so easily,” but Chris and Chelsea Ogbuah are the rare exception to the rule.
With Chris away in medical school overseas and Chelsea working in her home province of Nova Scotia, the pair learned how to make the most of their time together. A relationship that grew out of friendship, they always knew marriage was in the works—it was just a matter of timing.
“It was long,” says Chelsea of their time separated only by distance, “but it made it all worth it in the end.”
“Long but worth it,” says Chris, which makes them both smile.
They knew they wanted their wedding to be in Wolfville—the Annapolis Valley town where they met as students at Acadia University and always made time to visit—and they wanted it to be small.
“We ultimately decided that we just wanted immediate family, so just siblings and parents at the wedding,” says Chelsea.
“That was actually a really nice aspect, to be able to spend so much time with your family,” adds Chris.
The ceremony was held in the gardens of the Blomidon Inn on a sunny, late September day. With a grand total of six guests, it was simple, intimate and perfect.
The couple kept it close and personal: Friends stepped in to do hair and makeup, ceremony music and photography, Chris wore a tailor-made suit that was a souvenir from a trip across Asia that they took together, and the couple said their vows in front of a minister who was Chelsea’s childhood pal. The reception was held in a restaurant, with both sides coming together for a family meal—everyone at the same table.
Keeping it casual, they invited friends for celebratory drinks at the local Library Pub. After hearing the good news, its owner (a friend of Chris’) closed down the bar for the evening to make it a private event.
“It was just was just what we wanted, just a super-casual night,“ says Chelsea.
“And a few pints of Guinness,” adds Chris, laughing.
“I was relaxed the whole day,” says Chelsea. “It was awesome.”
