Michelle & Sean Jordan

When you meet in a comic book store, you have no choice but to make your wedding a fantastical blast.

When Michelle Li and Sean Jordan Volpe decided to get hitched, they knew they needed a wedding as unique as themselves—and their story. A story that went like this: He meets her at a crowded comic book store’s Halloween party in downtown Toronto. She compliments him on his very obscure costume, and he knows she got help from a friend with the reference. They decide to see each other again—if he’s willing to track her down on Facebook (“There’s a million Michelle Lis in Toronto. I doubted he would actually search for me, but he did,” Michelle says.)

Their wedding was studded with details as delightfully quirky as falling for someone while wearing a mask and cape: Reception tables loaded with Halloween candy, a live karaoke component (complete with tongue-in-cheek background graphics of sunrises and shooting stars) and even some unexpected guests.

“We had some bunnies attend the ceremony,” Michelle says, referencing the famous rabbits at White Point Beach Resort, where the wedding and reception were held. “The kids loved it. Everyone loved it.”

The rabbits hopped through hundreds of handmade, homemade paper flowers crafted by Michelle while guests munched on cinnamon sugar doughnuts in lieu of cake. The ocean lapped in the background and the couple performed a hip hop song together.

“I’m a very whimsical person, so it’s important that my ceremony reflected that,” Michelle says.

The bunnies, it seems, approve.
