It’s been an adventurous road to engagement for Fadi Al Qassar and Justine Dol. Despite living in different provinces (Fadi here, Justine in Ontario), they continued to run into each another on their respective travels. In May 2009, a year after meeting during a summer program in Montreal, they became involved with Uganda Venture. However, since they arrived at Uganda at different times, the pair didn’t connect at first. In April 2011, they had a second chance.
“We were on the same team, working on the same volunteer project for three weeks,” says Justine. By October, she and Fadi were dating.
Fadi proposed to Justine at her family’s home in Ontario on Christmas Day 2013. “At the bottom of the stocking was a little purple box. Fadi opened it and asked: ‘Will you marry me?’ Of course the answer was yes!
“Now we are both employed full-time with Uganda Venture, the non-profit project that brought us together in the first place,” Justine says. They reside between Halifax and Uganda.
The couple will be married at the Halifax Club on August 8, sharing an anniversary with Fadi’s parents. “The ceremony in Halifax will be small and intimate, with immediate family and close friends,” says Justine. The celebration of their love will continue with receptions in Jordan and Ontario.—CG
